Tell me
Somebody out there - anybody out there who might be reading - please give me some good news.  I am having a seriously awful time right now, and I need to hear good news. Any good news. Whatever is terrific and wonderful in your life right now, I wanna hear it.  Things are sucking right now and, though I am usually pretty upbeat, I am finding it hard to count blessings, so to get myself out of my...

Looks like we’re going to get another gross winter storm, starting tonight and ending Wednesday. I was never a huge fan of winter; I can safely say now that I LOATHE IT.

Hannah
Hannah is the result of an “oops” mating between a Great Dane momma and a Boxer papa.  Don’t ask me how that was even physically possible - it boggles the mind - but where there’s a will, there’s a way, I suppose.  Doesn’t matter.  Fact is, it was a litter of unplanned, unwanted puppies, and they needed homes. I miss having a dog.  I have been blessed over the...

I am incredibly salty at the moment. My car overheated on my way to work.  I was immediately having flashbacks of last October, when my car did the same thing and then BLEW UP on the top level of the parking garage (which made towing it in a downpour oh-so-joyful because we had to PUSH IT DOWN THE RAMPS). Anyway, wanting to stave off a problem, I decided to call the dealership immediately and...

Tree Kisser: Fur Is The New Green? Is This a Joke? →
If you give a crap about animals… please reblog this and help try to put a muzzle on this kid.  Honestly, trying to “bring back” fur..??  Gross, and stupid. treekisser: Normally I try to keep blog posts to one per day max, so as not to overwhelm all of my lovely and devoted followers. However, I’ve come across something today that is so upsetting my hands are shaking and my...

We have roughly a foot of snow… and for as much of a pain it is, it really does look pretty because it’s hanging on all the trees, undisturbed.   It makes them look like fine lace. And although it is overcast and just barely light in the sky, it reflects off the snow and makes it look like mid-morning. Yes, I will stay home from work today.  All the courts are closed, the City of...

OH, WELL.
I gave a good audition… to the extent they actually let me read anything… looks like I’m not going to get cast.  Feh. I am upset and disappointed on many, many fronts, but I should really look at the bright side, here: 1)  In two weeks, the puppy comes home.  The rather large puppy.  She’s eight weeks old, and already she’s 12 lbs.  She is a Boxer/Great Dane mix...

What the eff is wrong with China??
I know I could potentially get blasted for that… but really… this is a country that only just last year was so proud of themselves for working towards legislation that would make eating cats and dogs illegal.  At the same time, they will take just about anything with fur (foxes, cats, dogs, rabbits, etc.) and, after beatings, stompings, etc., skin them while they’re still alive...

Never have been a tremendous fan of winter… Less so today, given the fact that a thick sheen of ice now covers everything due to an evening of freezing rain. Snow is one thing; ice is another matter entirely. I do not like having to drive in these elements.

What's one thing you learned that blew your mind?
So I’m reading this book right now called Soulpancake: Chew on Life’s Big Questions by Rainn Wilson.  (Yes, THAT Rainn Wilson - the guy who plays the character of Dwight Schrute on The Office.) Turns out that he’s the thinky, spiritual type - unashamedly so.  Kind of like me.  And he wrote a book, along with some others.   Knowing that this sort of stuff appeals to me, Andrew...

I am so thrilled to finally be feeling human again.  I don’t think I’ve been this sick since… jeez, December of 2005?  Started with a tickly cough on Monday and started a terrible, downhill roll to yesterday, when I felt my absolute worst.  Today I have noticed improvement, especially from this morning until this evening.  Still didn’t get to do any of the things I wanted...

Forcing myself to stay still and rest this evening… again.  And it sucks because there are so many things that need to be done around this house.  However, I need to take this time to rest up because it is impossible for me to take any time off from work this week.  There is a rather important hearing going on next Tuesday, complicated by the office being closed on Monday and further...

So the 2011 Wilmington Winter Dodgeball schedule is up. I always enjoy the team names these people come up with. This year’s favorites include: Mr. Ball Jangles; The Ball Handlers; Grow a Pair; Balls Deep; Team Arrrrrrr; and - my favorite - the Sofa Kings.

Exceedingly cranky. I’m thinking pasta might be the fix for that. But wait - the dishwasher is full of clean dishes and the sink is full of dirty dishes and it’s on me to remedy both… which would delay the pasta fixings… and make me crankier. Fuck it.  I’ll drink a beer.

So I’m watching everyone get all bajiggity about the impending snowstorm. It’s fascinating. First of all, weather forecasters - who, years ago, could somewhat accurately predict snowfall timing and accumulations with a degree of certainty - are getting everyone all whipped up by saying things like, “We’re not sure how the track of the storm is going to progress… so be...

The snow has caused a calm hush to take over; everyone’s blood pressure seems a little lower. I’ll take it. Dancing tonight, then. More tomorrow. Then a performance at the Kitchen of India Restaurant in Baltimore. Should be good fun! I love being with my girls and making beautiful dancing with them. :)

Okay… I’m done getting piercings for now, I think. Got both of my traguses (tragii??) pierced yesterday, which I’ve wanted to do FOREVER but never got up the guts. (For those wondering, the tragus is that little flap of cartilage on the front part of your ear.) So - now that I’ve found a great piercer (Brad @ Explosive on Rte. 13 in New Castle), I felt good about going in...

Look, I understand that your butt cheeks are so precious and cannot possibly be besmirched by toilet seats used by common, everyday folks, but for crying out loud, WE HAVE COVERS FOR THE SEATS! If you must insist upon squatting over the seat while you void your bladder, do us all a favor and use...

Big Hippie Rant
I’ve actually been meaning to write about this for a long time because it’s something that has been on my mind in varying degrees of intensity over the past year or so, and it’s caused me to wonder about things.  A lot.  And wondering isn’t bad. Anyone who knows me well knows that my spiritual undertakings have been anything but orthodox - and they still really...

Starting to get a little twitchy...
Time to start planning out the garden for this growing season! Thanks to my giant pear tree splitting in two this spring, I have some more planting “real estate” to work with this year. Thinking about planting a few little bushes in that container: lilac, butterfly bush, and hopefully some kind of berry bush (blackberries?). Maybe stick a pretty rose or two in there, too, since it gets...

Best New Year's in a long time...
Yep - 2011 has had an auspicious start. New Year’s Eve first consisted of a migraine, which I really thought was going to ruin all of our plans for the New Year’s Day brunch.  We’d been talking about it for… months?… and there I was, dry-heaving and laying on the floor in the bathroom unable to move.  But - Andrew to the rescue!  He went and got some migraine...
